LOPN NEWS!
|
Dear all,
Have you met Phil Ramsey? In many ways, he has a way to create a wonderful experience in making the five disciplines come alive. Long before many of us even knew of Learning Organization he was already writing books for children to help them learn Systems Thinking. Born in New Zealand and very unassuming in character, he is the author of the famous Billibonk series, the story of an elephant and, how many whys do you have to ask to become wise.
Set a date with Phil on September 28, 2007 (Fri) at 2.30 pm where he is meeting and sharing with the community on a topic close to his heart (and ours), "Meeting the Challenges of Perfectionism". You can be assured of an inspiring afternoon of insights and learning. We look forward to seeing you there!

LOPN PRACTITIONERS' FORUM:
|
FORUM TITLE: MEETING THE CHALLENGE OF PERFECTIONISM Date: September 28, 2007 (Fri) Register by Sep 19, 2007 (Wed) Venue: NACLI, Learning Lounge, 70 South Buona Vista Road, Singapore 118176
Phil Ramsey is down-to-earth and a very likeable guy with a wealth of knowledge in the field of Learning Organization and with a special heart to take this work to the kids. We are grateful he has accepted our invitation to meet the LOPN community to share a topic close to his and alot of people's hearts.
It is an established rule of thumb in systems theory, that efforts to perfect the component parts of a system will result in sub-optimization of the system as a whole.
Many people—including those who practice in the area of Organisational Learning—recognise this rule in principle, but do not apply it to their own personal mastery. Many practitioners feel driven to pursue ‘excellence’ to the point where it undermines their personal well-being, the effectiveness of their organisations and their relationships with others. “Perfectionism” acts as a carefully disguised learning disability: it appears to be a healthy and productive drive, yet in a variety of ways it undermines the ability of people to learn.
This workshop explores the nature of perfectionism and the challenge it presents in terms of (1) personal mastery and (2) team learning. The workshop is based on research into the impact of perfectionism on young people, and experiences when encountering perfectionism within organisations.
Perfectionism can be understood as a dynamic process: one that can be represented using Causal Loop Diagramming. In the workshop you will learn how systems thinking has allowed the nature of perfectionism to be represented in a model which suggests actions that can be taken to meet the challenge it presents.

"For a long time I had felt like a mouse on a corporate treadmill and I was curious to find out how the programmes was going to provide me with some new insights and fresh perspectives. As the days unfolded, I thought the program was pleasant, relaxing and a good opportunity to recharge the battery. It wasn't until I came home, however, when it suddenly dawned on me that I had subtly changed. It was as if in this moment of stillness in Vermont, I had changed a lens on my mental camera and was looking at the world in a different way. As if in a moment of connection with life and the universe, I finally understood that our greatest power to change the world lies in our power to see beyond the veil." - Recent Participant
